There is a point where fighting a CMS costs more than replacing it: when every new feature needs another plugin, when the data model no longer fits the content types, or when what you are building stopped being a website and became an application some time ago.
That is where custom development earns its price. We build in Next.js and TypeScript, on a conventional stack chosen for how well it will be understood by whoever maintains it in three years — including a team that is not us.
If a well-built WordPress or Shopify site would do the same job, that is what we will recommend. Custom development costs more to build and more to maintain, and it is only worth it when the alternative genuinely does not fit.

Choose custom when the product has genuine application logic, when you need performance a CMS cannot reach, or when your data model does not map onto posts and pages. If the site is mostly content and forms, a CMS is the better economic decision and we will say so.

Yes. We start with an architecture and code review, then produce a written assessment of what is worth keeping, what needs refactoring and what should be replaced — with the cost of each option — before any code changes.
Most clients move to a monthly retainer for continued feature work, or take the codebase in-house using the handover documentation. Both are normal, and we do not make the second one difficult.
